  • STICKERS are like a type of label. If you want something that is going to last outdoors, choose a sticker that is made from vinyl or polyester material. A sticker generally has two layers: the decorative layer which has adhesive on the back side and pattern on the front; and the paper on the back which you peel off. The term sticker can refer to everything from postage stamps, to gold stars, to the label on your beer bottle! A good, durable sticker that is laminated to protect the printing from UV Rays should last at least 3 years.

  • DECALS are basically a decorative sticker, generally used outdoors. They are a design that can be transferred from one surface to another and will have three layers: paper on the back, the decal itself, and paper on the front. We have many standard colours available for decals (all usually about the same price) and if the cut shapes aren't too complicated, decals can be quite reasonable - actually the larger the decal, the easier they are for us to prepare! We'll need to see the design before quoting prices on decals.

Where the decal-or-sticker confusion usually lies stems from vinyl cut lettering and graphics. These are for long term outdoor use and are supplied with a pre-masking sheet, so upon application are transferred from one sheet/medium to another. Unlike a traditional “sticker” which is removed from it’s backing paper and stuck where-ever, vinyl decals are being transferred (often in multiple pieces) from the masking sheet to a smooth surface. So, here at Acme Signs, vinyl cut lettering and graphics are referred to as “decals” and all other one-piece, outdoor printed vinyl or polyester as “stickers”.
